Results from the June 18 vote

The cutest residents of Brightwaters donned “Re-elect Mayor Valdini” shirts and pins on election day.

Mary Del Vecchio was re-elected as a trustee with 201 votes. In addition to her trustee role, she currently teaches at South Country Elementary School in the Bay Shore School District.

New trustee William Pitta will be sworn in to his first two-year term on July 1. He received 198 votes.

Mayor John Valdini has been a resident of Brightwaters for 32 years. He received 202 votes, solidifying his reelection as mayor

Three seats were up for grabs during this recent Village of Brightwaters election: two trustee seats and the mayor of Brightwaters position. Voting took place at Brightwaters Village Hall from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on June 18, and unsurprisingly, the three candidates in the running for the three positions were all elected.

Of the 222 total voters, the results are as follows:

John Valdini for mayor - 202 votes

Mary Del Vecchio for trustee - 201 votes

William Pitta for trustee - 198 votes

Incumbent May Del Vecchio was re-elected to her trustee seat, and has served on the Village Board of Trustees for almost six years. Incumbent John Valdini is currently completing his sixth year as mayor.

Novice candidate William Pitta will be filling the trustee seat currently occupied by trustee Michael Dopsovic, who did not run for re-election. Pitta has been a fireman for 21 years and is currently a lieutenant in the FDNY. As a trustee, he looks forward to working with the board to deal with traffic issues and public safety in the village, and continuing to build the village community with resident involvement,

Elected candidates will be sworn in for their two-year term on July 1.
